Founded in 1997, Sean O’Connor Lighting is a full service architectural lighting design firm committed to design excellence. Led by Sean O’Connor, IALD, MIES, the practice is dedicated to the design of environments which are a true synthesis of light and space.
Our work is distinguished by attention to light and its absence, through which we construct works in which lighting is an integral part of the architectural experience as whole.
Creating compositions of layered light and shadow with elements including integrated architectural details and unique fixtures, Sean O’Connor’s signature approach defines spaces through light, defining their character, their identity, and their beauty.
Understanding that inspiration is born from a wide range of influences, over the past decade, Sean O’Connor Lighting has built a team of designers with a diversity of backgrounds in architecture, interior design, fashion design and product development. Working in collaboration with architects and interior designers including Gensler, Holt Hinshaw, Marguerite Rodgers, LTD and Kieran Timberlake Associates, this multidisciplinary team has created award-winning, sustainable projects for a wide range of retail, hospitality, institutional, corporate, and residential clients including Gap, Hyatt International, and Williams-Sonoma.
This work has been recognized with awards from the American Institute of Architects, GE Edison, the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and the IESNA’s International Illumination Design Awards. Sean O’Connor Lighting’s designs for AT%26T / Cingular have twice been recognized with the Institute of Store Planners Store of the Year Award, and the Sidwell Friends School has been certified LEED Platinum by the United States Green Building Council, and has received multiple awards from the American Institute of Architects. Sean O’Connor was recognized as one of Architectural Lighting Magazine’s “Promising People” in 2004, and Sean O’Connor Lighting has been cited four times as one of the Top 25 Retail Lighting Firms internationally.
