Sean O’Connor recognized his passion for the design of light and shadow while still a student of architecture. Over the past fifteen years, Mr. O’Connor has developed an award-winning body of work which defines spaces, their character, identity, and beauty through the use of light. As Principal of Sean O’Connor Lighting, Mr. O’Connor works in close collaboration with architects, interior designers, project owners and representatives, the practice’s design team, and lighting manufacturers to implement innovative lighting systems that are fully integrated within the architectural design, while meeting even the most demanding functional and sustainable requirements. Trained as an architect, Mr. O’Connor’s experience includes lighting design, retail store design, interior design and product design and development.
Mr. O’Connor’s lighting design expertise includes the development of retail, hospitality, institutional, corporate, and residential projects, as well as custom fixture design. In addition to his work in the lighting design field, Sean is an active member of the art and design community. He has served on the executive committee at the Whitney Museum of American Art and collaborated on the curation and design of the exhibit “ICONS” at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.
Mr. O’Connor is a Professional Member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD), and a Member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA).

Mr. O’Connor is a frequent lecturer on lighting design, having lectured to architecture, interior design and lighting design professionals and students. He has been a featured speaker at events including Lightfair International, SPECS, IALD and IESNA conferences, GE Nela Park, Neocon, and the Philips Retail Lighting Leadership Forum.
